I HAVE some curc. I was taking it every day (4 g) for about 2 weeks and then something happened. I'm such a slacker. I'll start back up today. I think it might have been helping, too.

How about trying curcumin for PN? I used to have night-time PN, nothing major, but it still woke me up, in my pre-curcumin period. No more. Plus, there are studies out there confirming that it helps (I read about inherited PN, see http://www.cell.com/AJHG/abstract/S0002-9297(07)61342-1, and these were mouse tests, but it's still PN).

Anyway, it can't hurt, could help...

I spoke with my oncologist on Friday about the etifoxine study from France. He had not read the abstract, so could not comment directly. He ventured that it may alleviate the pain but not correct the numbness. I'm not sure I trust that assessment because there are already decent options for the pain.

I don't intend to pursue relief from my PN just yet. I'm drug free for the first time in a year and don't want to take any mood enhancers. Etifoxine is primarily used for anxiety disorders.

If you have access to PNAS, you could read further about it. Their title is:

Full Text
Etifoxine improves peripheral nerve regeneration and functional recovery
PNAS 2008 105:20505-20510

Here's the link: http://www.pnas.org/content/105/51/20505.full

So, they are talking about regenerating the nerves. That sounds promising.

Richard took Lyrica for about two weeks then quit because of swelling. Gabapentin didn't help either. I have had patients who took Lyrica for diabetic neuropathy or fibromyalgia who did think it was helpful. The problem is that when you maximize the dose, you get swelling which is uncomfortable.

I guess I'm glad to be in Houston even though the reason is not good. Here it is warm but stormy and humid. Seems strange for this time of year.

Back home in Idaho they have been getting dumped on with snow -- another 8" last night. They must be near 3' on the ground although it does compact some.

I live in almost a mile from the county road on a shared private road. One of the neighbors has become a snowbird and goes to Yuma. The other has a "cat" and does most of the work on the joint road. I have about 1/4 mile to do of my own with my snow thrower. He has been trying to keep up but has had to spend a lot of time working on the cat this last week and luckily one of the other neighbors has helped out. I think my part of the road has remained unplowed.

Hopefully by the time I get home in a few weeks some of the snow will have melted. I know they'll do their best to get things opened up for me.

Hope you had a great Christmas.

Hi everyone,

Well i have read all of your post and i feel for you.
I am a 13 year old girl who had shingles on Boxing Day 2007 so i had it when i was 12. I noticed that the spots were coming up all around my eye and throughout my hair. I thought they were migi bites and told my mother. When they started to get worse and progress my mother was concerned but she could not take me to the docters for it what Christmas day. So the next day mum took me to the docters and they told me i had shingles. I had to take these tablets, i hated it because i dont take tablets, as i would say at home "I dont do tablets!". So my Christmas was consistive of rest, tablets in ice cream, regular visits to the docters and sleep. I slept a lot throughout Christmas feeling as miserable as ever.

Shingles - GAY!

i hate them

anyways i better be off

cya all
